It can be challenging to keep a holiday, such as Halloween, healthy for kids. If you play your cards right you can make your children’s Halloween healthy and make them happy with these five healthy and enjoyable Halloween treats. Bobbing for Peanut Butter Apples
You will need apples, one for each child, a rubber tub filled with water, jar of peanut butter, a few bales of straw.
Set up an area outdoors by covering the ground with a Halloween tablecloth to make the area more festive and place a few bales of straw around for the kids to sit on. Put the apples in the tub of water and place the tub on the ground covering.
Let the kids take turns getting their apples out of the tub by going after the apple using only their mouth. The kids will have good time getting their apple, make sure you have a few towels handy because some kids can get a little wet playing this game!
After everyone has an apple, they can bring their apple to you and you will cut it in half for them removing the seeds. Each child can then spread peanut butter onto their apple halves and then dig in! Yum! The children will love spreading the peanut butter onto their own apples and this makes for a healthy filling snack!
you will need a package of rubber gloves (clear or opaque), rubber bands, popped-popcorn, and any (or all) of the following ingredients; raisins, peanuts, cashews, cereal (any kind that doesn’t have a lot of sugar and tastes good straight from the box), and/or sunflower seeds. If you can think of any other tasty healthy tidbits toss them into the mix too, get creative, the kids will love it!
Since this is so full of good stuff and it is Halloween… you can put a few of these sweets into the mix to make the kids happy; candy-coated chocolate candies, candy-coated peanut butter candies, and mini-marshmallows.
Next, combine all of your ingredients into one big bowl and fill each glove with the mix and either tie the end shut or use the rubber band to close the end of the glove.
Place all the ghoul gloves on a tray or in a basket or a cauldron, and set them out on the food table.
You will need Vienna sausages and bar-b-q sauce. This is an easy recipe that you can even let the kids make. Place the sausages in to a slow cooker or a sauce pan, add the bar-b-q sauce, cook until heated the entire way Through and serve. The sausages look like mini bloody finger and the kids will enjoy them! If you don’t like Vienna sausages then use already made meatballs in place of them and have bloody monster eyeballs! Now that sounds good!
All you need for this super easy recipe is 1 container of vanilla yogurt for each child and one can of canned pumpkin pie filling.
Next mix a few teaspoons of pie filling with each container of yogurt. DONE! That was simple.
To make this more fun, set up a station at the party to create their own pumpkin soup, they mix the ingredients together in a paper bowl and enjoy their creation.
Tip: you can also all small tidbits such as nuts and raisins to the soup.
Pumpkin Seeds and Apple Cider
So you are carving your pumpkins with your children, getting ready for your big Halloween party and you are trying to think of one more healthy snack to have at your party, well there is a free snack in your hands and on the table and probably on the floor. Pumpkin seeds! They are a healthy snack that you only get once a year so make them for your party and serve them with some hot apple cider! Besides this is a classic!
To make, rinse the seeds off, spread them out on a dishtowel to dry.
Toss the seeds in a bowl with melted butter and then spread onto a cookie sheet. Sprinkle the seeds with any of the following seasonings to spice up your seeds; salt, sugar and pumpkin pie seasoning, garlic salt, or your favorite seasoning.
To make the hot spiced apple cider you will need; 1 gallon of apple cider, a few cinnamon sticks and a few whole cloves. Place the cinnamon sticks and cloves into a coffee filter, in the coffee pot. Pour the apple cider in the water tank of your coffee-maker and run it through. Your house will smell simply delicious while it is brewing.
Serve the pumpkin seeds with the hot spiced apple cider and everyone will be feeling the Halloween vibe. I like to serve these treats at the end of the party, when I settle all the ghosts and goblins down for a spooky story, it warms them up and satisfies there cravings.
